Organisers Announce First 1 km Dragon Boat Race in Hong Kong

4 May 09: Organisers of the Laracy Gall Lamma International Dragon Boat Festival 2009, also known as the ‘Lamma 500’, being staged this weekend at Tai Wan To Beach, Yung Shu Wan, Lamma Island, HK revealed today that a special one-kilometre dragon boat race would be held during the Festival. This new international sports event will be positioned as one of the top three dragon boat races in Hong Kong, and one of the most attractive for local and overseas teams to compete in.

Staged off Tai Wan To Beach (Power Station Beach), the Festival has a spectacular backdrop of the Lamma coastline, overlooked by the imposing peak of Mount Stenhouse.

As a cross-cultural sports event, the Lamma International Dragon Boat Festival features local Chinese and expatriate teams plus oversees teams flying into Hong Kong to compete to make a incredibly diverse melange of sporting and cultural backgrounds.

Promoters of the Festival are the highly experienced sports event management specialists, Thirsty Horse, who’s portfolio includes international soccer, tennis, athletics and cricket events.

Dragon boating is a popular sport in Hong Kong and internationally and has a positive, healthy, outdoor sporting lifestyle image which can be leveraged by sponsors for brand and product association across a whole range of products and services.
